Police believe Aynor man was lured into deadly ambush

Six suspects remain jailed at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center after being arrested and charged with armed robbery and murder in connection with the death of 54-year-old Ronald Rabon of Aynor.
Jamie Dean White, 22, of the 1000 block of Sinclair Road, Rowland, N.C.; Paige Skipper Furniss, 23, of the 2600 block of button wood Drive, Hamer; Stacey D. Johnson, 28, of the 2900 block of Railview Road, Mullins; Charles Andrew Skipper, 26, of the 500 block of Bradley Drive, Dillon; 28-year-old Crystal Turner of the 4100 block of Oliver Road, Marion; and Luther Eugene Oxendine, 23, of the 2600 block of Buckwood Drive, Dillon are all being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on armed robbery and murder charges.

Five charged in undercover narcotics sting

Horry County Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Division recently concluded an undercover operation in Darden Terrace Apartment Complex in Conway that yielded five arrests on drug charges.
In May, HCPD received complaints about illegal drug distribution in the neighborhood and began what turned into a three-month undercover sting. This past week, a search warrant was conducted and police recovered and seized weapons, drugs and cash. Four people were arrested on site.

Horry County students will be greeted by a variety of new safety measures, including metal detectors when they begin the new school year Monday.
According to deputy superintendent Dr. Bobby Nalley, the district is implementing the new safety measures as part of a proactive approach to school safety.
“My philosophy has been I’d rather stop it at the front door than once it gets inside,” he said. “We want students to enter the front doors, feel safe and go about what they’re there for, and that’s educating them.”

Fires gutted three unoccupied Loris homes within a 12-hour period between Thursday night and Friday morning, including a beloved historic landmark, leaving investigators to determine whether the fires were linked. All evidence points to arson, officials said.
The home on Three Curve Road was totally destroyed. The historic Allsbrook-Rankin-Mishoe home on U.S. 701 and the home on Ole Maple Drive both sustained heavy damage. The cause of a fourth blaze on Friday morning at a women’s shelter on S.C. 9 Business opposite Goretown Loop was determined to be a accident that started on a kitchen stove.

Hoping to revive slowing business among airlines servicing Myrtle Beach International Airport, Horry County Council has drastically slashed landing fees.
Effective Sept. 1, the fee will plummet from $1.97 to 50 cents per 1,000 pounds for domestic flights.
Horry County is also waiving all landing fees for international flights, as well as fees for domestic flights during the winter months, traditionally a slow time for the tourism industry.
